On June 30, people throughout the New York metropolitan area will gather on 5th Avenue in New York City for the annual Pride March. With explosions of color and sound, and thousands of diverse individuals, the march is a way for people in the LGBTQ+ community to be proud of who they are and celebrate their history. The New York City Pride March is one of the largest in the world, and just one event of thousands across the globe annually.

Tucked into the end of the hallway in the first floor annex, the Nutley High School Robotics Team prepares their very own automated creations for competition. Programmers work to write code for the robot to give it directions, while builders create the structure. Senior Lisle Hill leads the group as captain, and has worked as a builder and driver, but stepped back this year to prepare underclassmen for future years.

Around the globe, drivers of rideshare companies Uber and Lyft went on strike on Wednesday, May 8 to demand better pay, better benefits, and job security. As Uber and Lyft have completely changed the game for transportation services, backlash from their drivers has raised questions about their ethics and policies.

Healthcare is one of the most controversial topics in the United States. It has consumed American politics for years and continues to divide opinion. Too much talk ends at the economic factors: how much does health care cost? How can it be more profitable? How would we get the money for a proposed universal system? The conversation needs to look past money and concentrate on the key issue of America’s healthcare problem: the people.

With raffles, nurses, lawn chairs, and someone in a character costume, looking like a drop of blood, April 2 was no ordinary day in Nutley High School. Tucked away in the auxiliary gym was Key Club’s annual blood drive, where students, staff, and community members could donate blood to save lives.

Throughout New Jersey on February 13, members of the Roman Catholic Church scanned the long lists released by the state’s five dioceses of priests and deacons who were credibly accused of sexual assault. They totaled 188 names. Many of the priests have died, but 79 are living, most of whom have been removed from ministry.

The Nutley High School musical theater program has seen its fair share of talented students. Next to pave the way to success is senior Olivia Grzywinski, who will take on the lead female role of Katherine Plumber in the 2019 spring production of Newsies.

With strong viewpoints and a strong demeanor, she has garnered a lot of press - both good and bad - as she continuously captures the media’s attention with an uncanny ability to direct the public eye to issues she is talking about.

Over the past few weeks, several reports have been issued regarding the state of our environment, which all have said basically the same thing: climate change is real, and it is more dire than we realize. With doom seeming inevitable sooner or later, many look to find ways to reverse, or at least postpone, its effects. However, the biggest roadblock in enacting positive change is the greed of multimillion dollar corporations.
