On September 26, 2020, President Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the U.S. Supreme Court, who passed away earlier this fall. Amy Coney Barrett is a federal appeals court judge, professor of law at University of Notre Dame, and former law clerk of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. With the 2020 Presidential Election looming around the corner, the U.S. Supreme Court held multiple hearings for Mrs. Barrett’s appointment.

2020 has been one of the most unforgettable, unprecedented, uncertain, hectic, disastrous and exhausting years I think any individual has ever experienced. From Kobe and Gianna Bryant's death, to the impeachment investigation, to the outbreak of Coronavirus, to George Floyd’s death, to the wildfires in the west coast, to the notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, to the impending election, 2020 has been a year no one will ever forget. Who knows what still awaits us in these last three months?

Over the last six months, the deadly, contagious virus, COVID-19, has continued to infect more and more Americans every single day. As of October 1, there are 7,262,630 cases of COVID-19 and there have been 206,852 fatalities. With the news and social media constantly updating us, it’s been scary to see how many Americans have contracted the virus over time.

Mr. Joseph Materia is the Vice Principal of Academics at Nutley High School and has been in this position for the past four years. Materia has been in the education field for 18 years and has held various positions during his career. He has been a teacher of the Italian language, a professor of the Italian language, a supervisor of languages, ESL, and music, and a coordinator of languages. Thus, with his essential role in the NHS community, Mr.

As of May 26, there have been 1,704,110 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States and 153,104 cases in the state of New Jersey. Currently, there are 490 cases of COVID-19  and there have been 33 fatalities in Nutley.

On January 21, 2020, the first case of Coronavirus was confirmed in the United States. Since then, the global pandemic has impacted several other countries, with America being affected the most. As of X, there are 1,075,089 cases of COVID-19 in the country and 116,264 cases of the virus in the state of New Jersey. The number of cases is continuing to increase day by day, with health care workers and scientists struggling to develop a vaccine to mitigate the  spread of the virus.

On February 24, 2020, influential Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, was found guilty by a jury for two out of five sexual assault charges. Mr. Weinstein was convicted of rape and criminal sexual act, although he was acquitted for one of the more serious charges, predatory sexual assault. As a result of the criminal charges, the producer faced a possible sentence of five to twenty-five years.

On January 22, 2019, presidential candidate and United States Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton for $50 million in damages.

Mrs. Nicole David is a World History teacher at Nutley High School who has just received the 2019-2020 Governor’s Educator of the Year Award. David has been an educator at Nutley High for 23 years and has taught several different history classes. On January 9, 2020 Mrs. David was interviewed by the NHS Journalism class and spoke about her love for teaching, background in education, and her feelings regarding the award.

Mrs. Granelli is a new Geophysical and Environmental science teacher at Nutley High School and has just recently joined the NHS community. While Mrs. Granelli will only be here for the rest of the year, she has come to work as an in-class support teacher in the science department. She stated that she has always had a love for teaching and working with students. Mrs. Granelli spoke about her experience at Nutley High so far, her teaching history before she came to NHS, and what she hopes to accomplish for the rest of the year.
