Sophomores Enjoy the 2025 Super Bowl

Super Bowl LIX is over, and opinions vary among students who watched both the game and the half-time show. The Eagles’ decisive defeat over the Kansas City Chiefs brought out many emotions from football fans of both teams, although most agreed that the halftime show was great. 

Sophomore Isabella Mermelstein, who is an Eagles fan, shared her opinion on the game: “The game was intense! I was rooting for the Eagles and they didn’t disappoint with that 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.” Yet, as much as she enjoyed the game, Mermelstein admitted that the halftime show caught her attention. She said, “what was amazing to me was Kendrick Lamar’s performance. His energy lit up the whole stadium, especially when Sza joined him on stage. It was incredible.”

Sophomore Mia Ortiz, who said she pretty much watched the Super Bowl for Taylor Swift, also shared her opinion on the game. She said, “I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan, so I was excited to see her in the audience. But it was disappointing to hear the ‘boos’ when she got shown on the big screen.” Ortiz believes Swift has had a major influence on football this season. She said “ I really think she’s made the NFL’s views go up substantially.” Ortiz was impressed with the halftime show: “I feel like Kendrick Lamar had a memorable performance. The choreography and the guest appearances were all top notch. You could honestly tell he put his all into it.”

Sophomore Soleil Petit-Freere is a Kansas City Chiefs fan, and she had a disappointing night. While she loved Kendrick Lamar’s performance, she was upset about the game results. She said, “As a huge Chiefs fan, watching my team lose was hard.” She liked the halftime show: “I have to give it to Kendrick, his performance was absolutely incredible. The amount of energy he brought onto the stage really hyped me up.” Although, as the game began her enthusiasm began to decline. “After the halftime show, I was annoyed about the rest of the game, because I really thought that my team would pull together another win.”
