Essential workers including nurses and doctors are especially crucial at a time like this while public amenities, schools, restaurants, and stores are opening back up during a pandemic. For many school districts across the country, whether all the students are back or not, schools are reopening for the first time in months. School nurses, like NHS’ school nurse Mrs. Rose Cioffi, have helped along with the school administration to allow students to come back into the schools safely regarding precautions. 

Thanksgiving night is a night that many look forward to as it is the so-called kick-off to the Holiday season, also known as “Black Friday.” “Black Friday” usually fills up malls across the country with people looking for the holiday sales and deals. The continuation of COVID has caused many traditions to look different this year and as American head into the holiday season many traditions are prolonged.

The kick-off to a new year school usually means a kickoff to another football season. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused not only the school year itself to look different, but also for the 2020 football season.

It has been eight months of virtual instruction since the Friday of March 13.

Summer 2020 will be one for the books. Although it wasn’t the only huge occurrence of this year, COVID-19 definitely had a huge effect on all of our everyday lives and seemed to overtake the country. Despite the fact that there were many restrictions and changes that had to be made to the “normal” summer plans and activities, this summer, for New Jersey at least, is when life slowly started to open back up again. 

Back to school looked a little different this year. Not only did the 2019-2020 school year get cut at the end due to COVID-19, many schools, including Nutley Public Schools,  still weren’t ready to allow students to come back into the building for September. Nutley students are continuing with virtual schooling for the start of the school year in their homes. For many, if not most students, this has been a difficult transition, missing out on parts of school that they’ve looked forward to for a while.

This year, 2020, has taken a huge unexpected turn. COVID-19, for many, felt like it came out of nowhere changing and took away plans, events, gatherings, and just in general everyday life occurrences for people across the United States. As COVID-19 started to affect the US during mid-March with at first the thought of only lasting a couple weeks, to then a month, to then two months, to where we are now, June.

COVID-19 is something that not many saw coming so fast, impacting families across not only the US, but the world. It unexpectedly took the lives of families and friends in many countries leaving the world devastated.

Across the United States and around the world, virtual learning has become the new normal for many elementary school, middle school, high school, and college students due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With social distancing currently underway, virtual learning has become a source where students can finish their required school year from home for the rest of the year, if needed.

Technology has become a major part of the 21st Century and it plays a huge role in education systems today. Computers, especially Chromebooks, have become a huge part of the Nutley Public Schools. In Nutley, every student in grades 6-12, has access to a Chromebook and uses them in almost all their classes. This allows students to be able to research information, type papers, contact teachers for help, have easy organization, and to have a more interactive learning environment.
