Friends of Nutley Singers, better known as FONS, held its annual Cabaret Night on January 11, 2020, in the Nutley High School Gym. This event was run by Mrs. Polynice, Mr. Gurrieri, Mr. Gaines, Ms. Alamo, Ms. Milner, and Mrs. Moscaritola, as well as Rebecca Vigna, a NHS 2019 graduate. Together, the teachers and students involved were able to raise money for the Nutley Public School District’s choir and theatre programs. Students in grades 7 through 12 auditioned to be in the show in November and began rehearsing in December and January. 

On Monday, February 10, Nutley High School opened a largely student-run Coffee Shop, available for the NHS staff. This shop is run by Mrs. Megan Della Fave and provides students in the Structured Learning Experience and Career Awareness Program, an opportunity to work and give back to the NHS community. “The store was the idea of Director of Special Services, Mrs. Helen Doyle-Marino, even before she became the Director,” says Mrs. Megan Della Fave.

Nutley High School is filled with talented and determined teenagers who engage in theatre. The International Thespian Society is an honor society for students in high school who participate and are involved in the performing arts and stage production. To be eligible for induction, students must earn 10 total points, which is roughly the equivalent of 100 hours of careful and devoted work in theatre, in all different kinds of capacities.

Vaping has become a deadly and serious issue in America's schools. According to a recent article in The New York Times, hundreds of cases of vaping have come out due to teens becoming sick and starting to die from mint and tooty fruity flavored nicotine products. Why are JUULs and e-cigarettes so popular among teenagers these days? At Nutley High School, vaping is a problem. NHS Principal, Mr. Williams says, “American teens are hooked on vaping.”
