On February 14, 2018, the Nutley High School Varsity Basketball team played against Cedar Grove High School. Tensions were rising this day because it was Senior Night for NHS, and Matt Schettino had the opportunity to score 1,000 points. Scoring 1,000 points is a huge honor to achieve for a high school basketball player, and Matt would have the chance to do it on such an important day.
Nutley Crew Coaches and Athletes Look Forward to This Season
“We have alignment, attention, ROW,” the officials say as the Nutley boats are about to race. As the crew season begins, both the girls and the boys are working towards a common goal: to row the best they can. From novice girls and boys, to varsity athletes, the Nutley crew team never fails to work as hard as they can.
Nutley High School Crew is a team sport which requires tremendous effort and working together. All student-athletes and coaches play a big part in making the team succeed. Mr. Kevin Smyth has been the head coach of NHS Varsity Crew team for 26 years. Prior to coaching for Nutley, Mr. Smyth was a four-year member of the Rutgers Men’s Crew.
The New York Jets ended the 2017 regular season 5-11. They have the thirrd pick in the NFL draft and over $90 million in cap space. They have many holes in the team, but the biggest hole is the quarterback position. They are going to continue being mediocre until they find the guy that can lead the team. They don’t have a quarterback for the future. Over the past few years they have used bridge guys to fill the spot. They drafted Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg, signed Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh McCown and none of them got the Jets to the next step.

Nutley Girls Varsity Softball Team Trains in Florida: A Day in the Life
On March 15, 2018, the Nutley girls varsity softball team flew for the 19th year to Florida for a week dedicated to spring training. They returned home on Wednesday, March 23, to their regular school day routine. The week in Florida was filled with games against teams from all from different states, individual practice sessions, and nights of fun and excitement in the Disney Parks.

Before the 2017 football season started, the New York Jets were predicted to be 0-16 by ESPN reporters.They drafted rookie safeties in the first and second round of the 2017 draft: Jamal Adams out of LSU and Marcus Maye out of Florida. They signed cornerback Morris Claiborne to a one-year deal. They also signed quarterback Josh McCown to a one-year deal. They traded Sheldon Richardson and a 7th round pick to Seattle for Jermaine Kearse a 2nd round pick and a 7th round pick. They also signed former Jets receiver Jeremy Kerley back on a one-year deal.
With the winter Track and Field season underway, Mr. Gerald Ryan, the team’s head coach, is looking forward to the season. Along with being a Track and Field coach for the winter season, he is also the head coach for the spring season, the cross country team, and he is a US History teacher at NHS. Mr. Ryan has had a love for the sports, cross country and track and field, for a very long time, “I loved doing it, loved the sport,” he said.
The Ball family has been a media sensation in the sports world for several years. At the center of the family is LaVar Ball, a man known to be outspoken and have extreme confidence in his three sons: basketball stars Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo.
Lonzo is now the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. He averages 10 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists and had been recognized as one of the top rookies in the league this year.
The NHS Girls Basketball season kicked off with tryouts the Monday after Thanksgiving, November 27, 2017. Tryouts took place for seven days, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The pool of girls trying out this year was small, with 25 girls competing for spots on the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity teams.
