NHS Class President Sabrina Kuo to Make a Speech at 2019 Graduation

Yantacaw Elementary School’s nurse, Mrs. Katherine Flannery, recently received the Jaycee Educator of the Year Award. She has been a school nurse for 25 years and at Yantacaw for 19 years. The award was given to Mrs. Flannery at a dinner at the Valley Regency on April 5, 2019.

“I can't put into words what a wonderful honor it is to be named Jaycee Educator of the Year. It is truly a great feeling to be recognized for the work you do and love,” said Mrs. Flannery.

For more than 30 years, Ms. Luann Zullo has been a high school softball coach. For 20 of those years, she has been the head coach of the Nutley High School girls' varsity softball team. “I have been coaching since I was in college,” Zullo states. She has had a passion for softball since she was a child and she thought coaching would be the best thing for her.

It is a cold November night and the crowd is sitting casually on the bleachers while they watch the football players run across the field. All of the sudden, a group of girls on the sidelines, wearing team colors begin cheering and doing flips. The crowd starts to rumble and cheer, inspiring the football players to victory. Cheerleading is the exciting sport that keeps the crowd on their toes during games. Cheerleading has been a part of NHS for decades.

Nutley High School Crew is a team sport which requires tremendous effort and working together. All student-athletes and coaches play a big part in making the team succeed. Mr. Kevin Smyth has been the head coach of NHS Varsity Crew team for 26 years. Prior to coaching for Nutley, Mr. Smyth was a four-year member of the Rutgers Men’s Crew.

Shaping Students’ Futures Step-by-Step

New electives were introduced to the Nutley High School students for the 2017-2018 school year. Electives are courses that students take to help shape their future. In addition to the required courses, students are allowed to pick two electives in categories such as Career and Technical Education, Mathematics, Academy of Health Science Careers, Visual and Performing Arts and English.
