As a student, whenever we aren’t doing things such as homework or studying, we are spending time with family and/or friends, playing video games, sleeping, playing sports, and/or other activities. One thing that I definitely do in my spare time is watch hours worth of Netflix either alone or with my family/friends. Because there are so many different types of shows to watch on Netflix, it allows viewers to see what type of genre they prefer to watch, what actors/actresses they enjoy watching the most, what director creates the best style of show, and more.
We Asked Students Their Views on Homework
From 8:05 a.m. to 2:53 p.m., every Monday through Friday, NHS students sit in the classroom learning new material on different subjects. Whether it be math, English, science, history, business, music, art, and any other NHS classes, students obtain new knowledge every day from teachers. However, when school is over, students are still required to do the work at home for the next class. The real question: is homework really necessary?
Experiences with a mental health condition can affect the mind and body in different ways, especially in the young and developing brains of students. According to the National Association of Secondary Schools Principals, “one in five children and adolescents will face a significant mental health condition during their school years.
On January 7, the NHS varsity softball team began their winter workouts for the upcoming 2019 season. Workouts are held at John H. Walker Middle School in Nutley, New Jersey. Each session is held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Every year, the team begins preparing for tryouts through these workouts by practicing both hitting and fielding. Through competitive games to catching up with one another, fun is also incorporated into each session. Workouts are held every Monday until the week of tryouts, which is undetermined at this point.
On September 28, the James Walker Park infield at Essex County Yanticaw Park in Nutley, New Jersey got an upgrade. There is no longer a clay infield and a turf outfield, but now the entire field is made of turf. Due to the weather conditions and the large number of teams that play at James Walker Park, it was time for the field to get repaired for the upcoming softball season. Along with Yanticaw Park, Essex County Branch Brook Park in Newark, New Jersey, was repaired as well.
On October 7, 2018, members of Key Club, an international student-led organization where students develop character and leadership skills through community service and volunteering, went to Six Flags Great Adventure to kick off to the new school year. This event is held every year during Columbus Day weekend. Members from all around New Jersey attended the Six Flags trip, giving students an opportunity to meet other members involved in Key Club from the state. During the event, the "Key Clubbers" discussed the volunteer services they will take part in during school year.
NHS Celebrates 100 Years of Baseball
With the States Championships over, the NHS varsity baseball team is working hard to get ready for next year's 2019 season. The NHS baseball program has been training for many decades. Over the years, there have been both major and minor changes for the baseball team.
As new students each year walk through the NHS doors, getting ready to begin their first day of high school, they are prepared to experience what it is like to get more work, have different class selections, and meet new classmates and make new friends. While some students are focused on completing all of their academic duties, some students are prepared for what sports they hope to play for the next four years of their high school life. Nutley Girls Varsity Softball Team Trains in Florida: A Day in the Life
On March 15, 2018, the Nutley girls varsity softball team flew for the 19th year to Florida for a week dedicated to spring training. They returned home on Wednesday, March 23, to their regular school day routine. The week in Florida was filled with games against teams from all from different states, individual practice sessions, and nights of fun and excitement in the Disney Parks.
