High school; four years of laughter, joy, sadness, and memories that will last a lifetime. Back in 2017 when I entered Nutley High School, I knew I’d be here for four years and at the time that seemed like forever, but in all honesty it went by in what seems like the blink of an eye. Now the class of 2021 is about a week away from graduation and a new chapter of our lives. 

On Friday, April 9, 2021, news struck the world that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband to the Queen of England, passed away at the age of 99. He laid to rest peacefully with his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, beside him. Prior to his passing he was able to spend time with his children as they all were vaccinated earlier this year, but relations with other family members were cut due to COVID protocols. 

On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the +COVID-19 pandemic halted in-person learning, and schools shut down indefinitely. Worldwide students were forced to learn from home and teachers forced to teach from home. Social gatherings were also prohibited. The NHS Class of 2020 unfortunately missed out on the annual end of year festivities, but the class of 2021 has experienced little to nothing of a senior year as well

On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic halted in-person learning, and schools shut down indefinitely across the globe . Throughout the country and even worldwide, students were forced to learn virtually from their own homes and this made many things difficult. After six month of isolation, the 2020-2021 school year began. Schools tried to their best extent to give students some type of in person experience.

On Tuesday, March 13 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic halted all lives as it spread globally and caused the Nutley Public Schools to move to remote learning. All spring sports were canceled. As the 20-21 school year approached, there was speculation about fall sports. They were able to take place since they were outside and allowed for easy social distancing protocols.

Signora D’Angio has been a part of Nutley’s language department for countless years. . After many years teaching, D'Angio decided to retire in October, leaving Nutley High School with an opening for an Italian professor. The high school hired Italian teacher, Steven LaPeruta. LaPeruta, who is new to Nutley, discusses his love for Italian, how he enjoys teaching it to younger generations, and what he hopes to accomplish this upcoming year at Nutley High School.
