“One Summer Can Change Everything”

A Preview of the New Season of Stranger Things

If you are a fan of the Netflix original series Stranger Things like I am, you already know the concept of the show. We take a blast to the past to the 1980’s where a group of kids uncover sinister secrets about their good old town of Hawkins, Indiana. During season one, one of their friends goes missing, they become aware of a government lab, portals to another world and monsters. In the new third season, airing on Netflix on July 4, 2019, there are some new characters, new monsters and enemies, and the kids deal with the biggest monster of them all: puberty.

The kids that we all know and love, aren’t kids anymore. We watch them all grow up and mature, which I feel is the most sentimental part of the show all together.

The trailer of the season kicks off when the teens welcome Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) home from a summer camp called Camp Know Where. His T-shirt is a reminder that the season takes place during the summer of 1985. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) used her powers to move his toys, to lure him out of his room. The sequence ends with Lucas (Caleb Mclaughlin) getting a face full of hairspray.

As the trailer moves on, things don’t look too good for Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). He has suffered post-traumatic stress since the Upside Down last season and it’s getting its claws into him. It may looks like he may have to leave Hawkins and leave his friends behind. In one part of the trailer, Chief Hopper (David Harbour) says, “I want you to feel like this can still be your home,” and then the camera immediately cuts to Joyce, (Winona Ryder) Will’s mom. It’s possible that Joyce may want to leave Hawkins, and take Will and his brother with her.

In a series of ominous shots in the trailer, Eleven is shown on a beach with dark clouds and red lightning over her. Billy, (Dacre Montgomery) Max’s (Sadie Sink) stepbrother is seen with an infected growth with red veins on his arm. These sequences could be connected because of the veiny red colors. There are also a series of strange explosions and men holding guns.

The last important thing that happens in the trailer is an all-new monster is a hospital hallway. There is no guessing what that monster s but we for sure know that it’s going to be bad.

While watching the trailer, I gradually became more excited because there are many sequences and new plots that I am looking forward to. It seems like this season is going to be much different from the others because the child characters are moving towards adolescence. We also may be saying an emotional farewell to some important characters as well. I have a strong feeling that Stranger Things 3 is going to be suspenseful, heartbreaking and, overall, the best season yet.
