NHS students will soon have new food options for lunch and weekend meals that have their roots deeply planted in Nutley history. Adam "Spanky" Jernick, a 2001 NHS graduate, is opening a restaurant across the street from the high school that will offer award-winning burgers, cheesesteaks, sandwiches, sides, and beverages.
Junior Brandon Toranzo was named New Jersey Athlete of the Week by The Observer after his outstanding wrestling performances in the Rahway Tournament and the Kearny Tournament. The Observer is a print and e-newspaper serving the communities of Kearny, Harrison, East Newark, North Arlington, Lyndhurst, Belleville, Bloomfield and Nutley.

After weeks of the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup tournament, the final took place on Sunday, December 18th. The two teams playing were the 2019 reigning World Cup Champions France, versus the international powerhouse Argentina. Both teams are made up of great players, but the two players to really watch out for were soon to be veteran soccer legend Lionel Messi from Argentina, and the up and coming superstar Kylian Mbappe from France.
Following the Group Stages of the FIFA World Cup was the Round of 16. In this section of the World Cup, there are a total of eight games, where each nation has one chance to advance to the quarter finals. During the quarter finals there will be a total of four games that dictate which four teams will be going to the semi finals. Finally, the two winners of the semi finals will advance to the finals and the two losers will go on to the match for third and fourth place.
Vice Principal Craig Jandoli started a new holiday tradition, a "Deck The Halls" fundraiser, where the teachers participate in a door decorating contest, and the winner gets to choose a charity to donate the prize money to. Vice Principal Jandoli said, “Initially it wasn’t going to be a fundraiser, but just an opportunity to bring life into the school, give students a different scenery, and get into the spirit of the season.
After a long series of qualifications for the World Cup, 32 international teams are set up for the group stage. There are eight different groups — Groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H — and four teams in each group. Each team is grouped depending on what seed they are ranked and play each other once, which accumulates to three total games. A win is worth three points, a tie is worth one point, and a loss is worth no points.
Key Club members spent five hours helping the employees at Nanina’s In The Park put together baskets of food for Thanksgiving for the less fortunate and load them into trucks on Tuesday, November 22. Key Club Vice President Elizabeth DeSantis said, “It’s nice that Key Club always makes an effort to get the student body involved in events like these.
With wrestling season right around the corner, our Raider wrestlers have a lot to live up to and even more to look forward to. Following their rough season last year, a lot is expected of them on and off the mats. Coach Sabino Coppola said, “Last year we had a rough season; we had a whole lot of new wrestlers coming out for the team and had very light numbers. However, this year I think we will see a whole lot of improvement.”
A 5k run/walk (three mile walk/run and a one mile fun run for children) was held on November 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at De Muro Park, in honor of the former Nutley cheerleader, Gianna Signorile. The event raised $10,000 for medical research.
