LIKE Screening Garners Large Turnout

Close to 400 students, parents and staff members came out on February 4, for dinner and a movie at NHS. In partnership with the Nutley Educational Foundation, the District presented a screening of the documentary LIKE, focusing on the perils of social media and the impact of technology on our lives. A panel discussion followed with NHS students, staff members as well as key members from our community.

Younger generations of millennials and gen z, spend an alarming amount of time on social media.  Research shows that millennials check their phones on average 150 times per day. Social platforms are being used as a place to connect, share and care, but many have concerns about overuse.

A panel of students, staff and professionals discussed the topic. Panelists included NHS students: Shannon Granelli, Bhutan Dave, Kelly Waddleton and Philip Ruiz.

Counselors Lisa Cassilli and Lauren Alfaro joined the adult panel, which also included: Joe Armentano and Staela Keegan from the Nutley Family Service Bureau and Detective Sergeant Mike Padilla from the Nutley Police Department.
