Drake is Bad Luck?

The Drake Curse is Actually Real

For years, sports fans have been speculating whether famous rapper Drake, beholds a curse that affects whether a team is going to win or lose. It seems like whatever team he may be supporting in whatever way -- wearing a t-shirt, hat, or even tweeting about them -- that team ends up losing. It started out as a joke after the first two occurrences, but it continued to happen multiple other times which got fans believing this could actually be a real curse. But why Drake of all people and what lead up to everyone believing this is real?

No one truly knows why the curse has been attached to Drake of all people. But it just seems to be that time and time again, wherever Drake may be and whoever he may be supporting, ends up losing. Drake has brought his curse upon a wide variety of people and teams ever since about 2015 when he was already very famous and successful. It started with the Kentucky Wildcats’ Men’s basketball team. Drake is a huge fan of basketball and especially Kentucky but ever since he has been in the spotlight, the Wildcats have not won a championship since 2014 and have had some outstanding teams that were projected to win championships. But this is a small that is overlooked and no one really took notice because this one took time to develop.

The curse was then passed on to tennis superstar Serena Williams who went into the U.S Open as the top seed and ran through her competition all the way until the semi-finals where she lost to an unranked opponent. Ironically enough, Drake was in the stands during the match in the semifinals supporting Serena. The curse then went quiet for a couple years until 2018 when it was brought back and was happening time and time again since then and it got people speculating.

In 2018, he was right by Conor McGregor, one of the most notorious MMA fighters, during his weigh-in before his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. McGregor would go on to lose very badly and take one of the worst defeats of his career. During that same year, Drake was supporting his hometown team the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals against Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Once again, the curse prevailed and Raptors were defeated. This is when people started to notice a pattern.

So far in 2019, the curse has been strong, taking effect a number of times. Drake brought his curse upon another one of his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. He went to one their games wearing a Maple Leafs jersey with the number six on it, where the Leafs would go on to lose by six goals and fans were not happy about Drake’s appearance. Following that, Drake brought his presence to France where he would cast his accidental terrible luck to PSG (the top soccer club in France) after he took a picture with one of the players. The team ended up losing to one of the teams at the bottom of the standings.

These are just a few of the examples that can be used to justify that Drake does bring a “curse” or really bad luck to whatever team he chooses to support. Even though it started as a joke, as it happens more and more people begin to take it more seriously. There will definitely be more events in the future where hopefully after it happens enough times, the “Drake Curse” can be a considered a real curse. Why it is Drake that the curse belongs to, no one will ever know but it is very funny that him of all people, holds the power to bring bad luck to whoever he chooses.b
