The year 2020 is here and welcomes a new season of college rankings. Princeton University remains at the top of the New Jersey list. However, beyond this Ivy League lies countless colleges in New Jersey with great reputations that seem to be ignored.

One college that has moved up to the top of the list is The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). It is ranked as the fourth best regional university in the North, tied with Loyola University Maryland. According to U.S. News and World Report, The College of New Jersey shares the high ranking of second with SUNY Geneseo for best undergraduate teaching, falling right under a private university, Fairfield University.

Another New Jersey climber is Monmouth University. U.S News current ranks Monmouth within the top thirty best regional universities in the North, tied with Lebanon Valley College, SUNY New Paltz, and Roger Williams University. This university is private with a fairly expensive in state tuition of approximately $40,000 a year. With this being said, Monmouth University has been rising in popularity throughout New Jersey and the tri-state area due to the university’s location in West Long Branch, by the water, and shift in rankings.

One of the most popular universities represented in the the halls of Nutley High School is Rutgers University. Rutgers University holds a very high ranking amongst national universities with a spot within the top 162. When asking a current freshman, Joseph Ramirez, why he chose Rutgers University he claimed that he “always knew he wanted to attend a university like Rutgers” where “the education is compelling and challenging” and the tuition is “a great price for such an exceptional school”. The in state tuition for Rutgers University is approximately $15,000 per year, a $25,000 difference compared to Monmouth University.

Whether a college is ranked within the top a hundred or top thousand, it’s important to like a college beyond its rankings. Although these numbers do sound appealing, each university holds different opportunities unique to each student where you can find a great education almost anywhere you go. New Jersey has countless universities that rank decently and, most of all, provide an endless amount of undergraduate programs for you or your child to take part in.
