The 2020 Election: Trump’s Covid Diagnosis and Votes Affected

On October 2, 2020, Trump tweeted, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” This remark sparked controversy among US voters. Just a few days after his diagnosis, the Trump Administration began planning for future rallies. According to ABC News, most of his campaign rallies do not follow social distancing rules and most people are shoulder-to-shoulder. Trump’s campaign explains that even with his recent diagnosis, there will be no future restrictions implemented.

Trump later tweeted, “I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!” This led to even more controversy and confusion. According to ABC News, FiveThirtyEight’s public tracker, approximately 40% of Americans agreed with Mr. Trump, while 56% disapprove of this message. Taken from a CNN survey, about 70% of Americans trust what they hear from the President and White House.
