Billie Eilish’s Journey to the Top

At the age of 16, most American teens are in their sophomore or junior year of high school, trying to plan out their future while living out their last years before adulthood. If you’re lucky, you may already be set for college and have an idea of a possible career path at this age.  If you’ve hit the jackpot of fate, then you’re Billie Eilish, a famous musician with multiple hit singles. This aesthetically appealing alternative pop-singer from California has topped the charts with her profound creativity and talent.

The song that kick-started her career is titled “Ocean Eyes.” To this day, it has amassed over eight million views on YouTube and 35 million on Spotify. The astronomy remix of said song has 11 million on YouTube and was number 25 on Billboard’s Spotify Velocity Chart. The song was released on November 18, 2016 and Billie has been consistent with earning no less than one million views per song since then. The slow paced beat paired with a gentle, but high-pitched singing voice has a hypnotic and romantic effect that tugs on the heartstrings of her audience. The lyrics touch upon the idea of love, and how it is “no fair” that it can have such an emotional affect on someone who experiences it. Like many of her other songs, “Ocean Eyes” has a theme that can relate to listeners of all ages.

Before her career began, Billie was a dancer and made comedic Vines, which were seven second video clips that were popular from 2013-2017. She has been dancing since the age of eight, and alongside her official music video for “Ocean eyes”, Billie released another video for that song that features her dancing to the music.

One might say that Billie Eilish was sheltered as a child. She was homeschooled along with her brother Finneas O’Connell. Her hobby was dancing and she joined the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. When she turned 11, she began writing and singing her own songs with her brother’s assistance.

Although “Ocean Eyes” was the unexpected hit that got the ball rolling for the young pop-prodigy’s success, one of her biggest debuts was a song called “Belly-Ache,” which was released on February 24, 2017.

More of her popular songs such as “Idontwannabeyouanymore” and “Lovely” can be found on YouTube or on Spotify with just a simple search of her name. Her fans can also look forward to a concert tour lasting from June 30 -October 6. Tickets are on sale now, but are rapidly being sold out.

To this day, Billie continues to be a living example of the fact that success does not have an age. As her prominence in the music industry grows, she will become an inspiration to more and more individuals.
