Boys Volleyball Maintains a Solid Record

The Nutley Boys Varsity volleyball season kicked off with a match against Newark Tech on April 1st, 2024. Their record is presently 11-5. The team has only been competing for three years and the boys are looking forward to a promising season. The team’s 2021-2022 season ended at 10-10, and the 2022-2023 season ended 20-5.

Starter freshman Lucas Samaloff is new to the team, and he said that the team has been welcoming to him. Since they are new to each other, chemistry is still growing among the team members. Samaloff said that he’s most excited about playing other teams “and using them to learn and improve [his] skills.” He also said he appreciates the opportunity to learn the game from “the best”.

Another starter on the team with more experience, Senior Ilhan Ilhan, has been on the team since the 2021-2022 season and expressed how the team has improved. Ilhan said that he enjoys helping younger players grow and improve over time.

Games like Essex County Tournament games are also highly praised as some of the most anticipated matches of the season. The competition is a challenge and adds to the progression of the players and their skills.

The team will host their next match against Lincoln (Jersey City) at 6 p.m. on May 9, and then host Science Park on May 13 at 4 p.m., before going on the road against Montclair Immaculate at 4 p.m. on 5/14.
