Seniors Enjoy A Night At The Movies
More than seventy students attended this year’s Nutley High School Fashion show for the Class of 2025. Many seniors enjoyed having this memorable show as a way to have fun during their last year of high school at the Valley Regency in Clifton. There were many themes for the casual wear including outfits indicative of Euphoria, Monster High, Heathers, and High School Musical. This event was a big fundraising boost for the senior prom and all seniors were able to put on a show for their friends and family.
The chairpeople were two senior parents, Marla Hunter and Melissa Florie. They handled the tickets and the tricky tray prizes. The prizes included AirPods, purses, and other luxury gifts.
One of the working mothers, Kelly Konz, was a treasurer and photo montage designer. “My ultimate role was to collect photos for the photo montage that was played during the fashion show. It was so great to see childhood photos of the students and compare them to the young adults that walked the runway that night. It was very nostalgic,” she said.
The types of clothing modeled by students were “formal” and “casual,” and the overall theme was “A Night at the Movies”. Many people dressed as their favorite movie characters while some dressed up as their favorite rappers or TV show characters.
The students took full control over their casual and formal wear, this gave the students individuality over what they wanted to wear and not. For example, senior Jaylin Remero dressed as Heather McNamara from the movie Heathers with two other seniors, Ava Ardizzone and Delaney Koehler dressing as the two other Heathers.
“Dressing as one of my favorite movie characters was so much fun. Maybe mostly because it was in front of a lot of parents who grew up with the movie Heathers,” she said.
In between the break of formal and casual, there was a tricky tray where dozens of baskets were raffled off to ticket holders. It consisted of families and local businesses donating baskets for the event. This made for a friendly competition between guardians while the students got ready for the show. Though not every senior walked or attended the fashion show, some still volunteered to be stage crew and photographers.
Senior Sophia Velasquez was a photographer for the fashion show so she remained behind the scenes. “It was definitely fun to take pictures of who and whatever I wanted for everyone. My sim card was already filled up by the second walk,” she said.
The annual senior fashion show is a memorable way to cherish and remember a fun high school experience for everyone. During third and fourth marking period, the days seem to blend together for seniors and trying to grasp graduation day ends up in a case of Senioritis. This event is a way to make seniors excited for their new chapter while also spending precious time with their friends and peers.
