Roll Out the Red Carpet

The votes are in and the people have spoken. Sunday, November 11, stars from across the entertainment industry attended the 44th People’s Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California. Nicki Minaj opened the event with a performance off her most recent album, "Queen." John Legend and Rita Ora also performed. The event featured 43 categories in total, which was broken down to 16 television categories, 10 movie categories, nine music categories, and eight pop culture categories.

According to E!, when they accepted the award for best Movie of 2018, Avengers: Infinity War co-stars Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, and Danai Gurira, mentioned the hard work taking place throughout California to contain the flames and wildfires. "We want to take the moment to dedicate this to the great state of California," Gurira said. "The devastation and the turmoil that we are going through right now, we are with you, our thoughts and our prayers and our hearts are with you."

This year, celebrities overwhelmingly chose neutral makeup looks. Riverdale's Camila Mendes (pictured here) looked glowy and youthful, with tousled hair and a sheer pink lip, while Shay Mitchell rocked a low pony and a maroon smokey eye. Other stars, like Sabrina Carpenter and Scarlett Johansson, experimented with winged eyeliner and inner corner shadow. The KKW Beauty owner, Kim Kardashian, brought flawless, nude-toned beauty to the red carpet, then topped it off with a genie-inspired ponytail.

Victoria Beckham was awarded the Fashion Icon award, while Nicki Minaj won awards for Female Artist and Album of The Year. John Legend presented the 2018 People's Champion Award to Bryan Stevenson, a lawyer, and author who is fighting against discrimination. Chrissy Teigen presented Reality Show of 2018, which went to Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Avengers: Infinity War had the most film nominations, while The Walking Dead topped the TV categories with eight nominations. Ariana Grande was the nominated Musician of the Night.

The People's Choice Awards are a sweet reprieve from the stuffy nature of other award shows. From Jennifer Lopez to Blake Lively, this award show was something not to miss. Over the last 43 years, the People’s Choice Awards have been the award show of the people, voted on by fans with results that you wouldn’t necessarily see at the Oscars, the Golden Globes, or the Grammys.
