Matchup between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium

Yankees Coming Back from a Previous Slump?

As the season continues, the New York Yankees are fighting for their second place ranking in the AL East, as they recently dropped to third, but are now back in second as of April 18. Having 17 wins and 13 losses so far, a peak is beginning to show for the team. Although that prediction may be tough to determine, that doesn’t stop the excitement from the fans, as the players continue to make great plays and show their fight for improvement.

The Yankees continue to come back from a losing streak, as they swept the Baltimore Orioles all three games from April 4 to April 7, but then lost to the Houston Astros and the Chicago White Sox from April 8 or April 14. Fortunately, the Yankees beat their longtime rivals the Boston Red Sox on April 16 and 17, with the help of players such as Mike Tauchman, James Paxton, Clint Frazier, Gleyber Torres. The hard work is showing this year, knowing the battle between the two teams has been going on for the longest time, ever since Babe Ruth was traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees in 1919.

James Paxton, who joined the Yankees as a starting pitcher less than a year ago, is beginning to show his potential in games as he had his best start in a Yankees uniform during the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry, throwing fastballs in the mid to high 90s and striking out 12 players while only allowing two hits during eight innings. “It was a big start for me, just to get my feet under and to show myself that I can be here and do this,” Paxton said in an interview with The New York Times. As for Mike Tauchman, Clint Frazier, and Gleyber Torres, they each hit a home run, Tauchman hitting his first major league home run and Frazier and Torres beginning to warm up their hits as current Yankees.

As the New York Yankees’ 2019 season proceeds, it is hard to predict what will happen next, whether they will keep up with their wins or begin to fall back into a slump, as games happen almost every day. But so far the players have shown their potential in games as they beat the Boston Red Sox 8-0 on April 16 and 5-3 on the 17th, with the help of James Paxton’s great pitching ability and Mike Tauchman, Clint Frazier, and Gleyber Torres’ home runs.
