Harry Styles performing in NYC

Harry Styles' New Era

Harry Styles, a previous member of the boy band One Direction, is set to release his sophomore album, Fine Line, on December 13. Styles released his first solo album in 2017, a year after One Direction took a hiatus. The first album was self-titled and Styles did his first solo world tour the following year. His first album had lots of success, as he, “has the best debut album performance of any male artist hailing from the UK,” according to MTV.

With his new era approaching, Styles released the first single off of his second album back in October. Rolling Stone described the song as a “breezy indie-pop turn.” Styles sent his fans into a frenzy after he tweeted the word, “Do,” after not being present on social media for two months. Then, posters started popping up all over the world with the words, “Do you know who you are?” Due to the Columbia Records’ symbol and TPWK (Treat People with Kindness, a Harry Styles motto), on the posters, fans were quick to figure out new music was coming. Styles released his song, “Lights Up” and the music video on October 11, 2019. He showed his gratitude by tweeting, “Thank you so much to everyone listening to “Lights Up.” I loved making it, hope you’re enjoying it.”

On November 16, Styles hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live. He also dropped his second single off the album, “Watermelon Sugar,” that same night. He performed that song and “Lights Up” for the first time on SNL. Styles’ SNL episode broke online records with getting 18.4 million views over the weekend. SNL cast members took to social media to express their enjoyment with working with Styles. Chris Redd tweeted that Styles, “was fantastic and down for even the wildest of ideas.”

Ads kept popping up across social media for a place called, “VisitEroda.” It seemed as though it was a new vacation destination. Styles’ fans began connecting the dots between the descriptions on the VisitEroda website and Harry Styles. Soon it was discovered that it was indeed Styles due to his posters popping up in New York that contained the symbol that the VisitEroda website had. Styles created the fake island, Eroda, for his new music video and song, “Adore You,” along with a story that makes the video over seven minutes long. The video has over 8 million views on YouTube. “Adore You” was released on December 6.

Styles announced his 2020 World Tour, Love On Tour, on November 13. His openers are King Princess and Jenny Lewis. He also announced a one night only show at The Forum in Los Angeles the day his album comes out. To amp up excitement for his sophomore album, Styles has held a couple of listening parties for lucky fans. Styles sat down with interviewer Zane Lowe to talk about the album. Styles recalled how he, “kind of went into the second one [album] feeling like I want to work out how to make all of this feel really fun.” The build up for this album is intense and Fine Line is released on December 13, the start of the new Harry Styles era.
