Georgia Election Results

A Presidential Election occurs every four years. This year Election Day was on November 3, 2020. It was the deadline for mail-in ballots to be received by the election officials in each state. Most of the states got their results within hours. 

It was a very close result. On November 6, 2020, Georgia called for a recount. With the results still being close on November 11, 2020, they needed another recount, but this time by hand. The Georgia recount continued on November 16, but more than 2,600 votes were reportedly uncovered in Floyd County because the ballot scanning machine’s memory card did not properly get uploaded on Election Day. 

Many politicians then went on to say how the machine had been tampered with. They found that none of the machines had been tampered with. On November 19, the hand recount ended with Biden leading Trump by 12,284 votes. On November 25, Powell filed lawsuits in the US District Court, alleging massive election fraud in Georgia. The media analyzed the lawsuits on the following Thanksgiving morning, noting that they were full of typos and formatting errors, and repeated the same claims she has been making during the past few weeks. 

On December 2, the Trump campaign requested a recount that showed no substantive change. “It looks like Vice President Biden will be carrying Georgia,” Raffensperger explained during a press conference. On the same day, three voter advocacy groups filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, alleging that about 20,000 voters were wrongly removed from voter registration list prior to the election. They heard a hearing on the allegations on December 3rd. 

On December 7, Raffensperger officially re-certified Georgia’s election results stating that Biden was still winning the state. The results were 49.5% to 49.3%. It was a very close call. The end result was that Biden won the state.
