Boy's Volleyball Enjoying a Strong Season

The NHS boy’s volleyball team is starting off their second-ever season strong. They currently have 12 wins, only two losses, and are now leading in the Colonial division in the Super Essex Conference (SEC).

In one of their recent games against Irvington High School, Nutley won in two sets. The score of the first set was 25-16 and the score of the second was 25-20. Senior Alex Tramontana led the team in kills totaling nine, and sophomore Gavin Warburton followed closely behind with eight. Senior captain Joey Duca led the team in assists with 22 total and sophomore Shane Castellanos also led with in blocks totaling two.

Junior Kaan Aydin said, “So far the season is going amazing. We're currently undefeated and, so far, we have won more games than we did last year. I'd say for a second-year program we are an extremely strong team.”

The Nutley High School Volleyball (NHSVB) Boosters Club is a big part of the NHSVB program.  They fundraise and post schedules weekly on Instagram at @nutley_volleyball_boosters to spread the word about home and away games. At the boys’ game against Clifton High School on 4/20/23, the Booster Club gave away a $25 Amazon gift card to help get a bigger crowd. Fans in attendance received a raffle ticket and in between the JV and Varsity matches the winner was announced.

Attending the games is a fun experience because of the loud cheering led by the JV team. “The atmosphere at the games is incredible and very loud. We have chants and we motivate players throughout the game to hype everyone up. When a good play happens, everyone is yelling and applauding. It really can't get better than how it is now,” Aydin said.
