Fall and Winter Trends 2018
Fall and winter trends change every year. This year, there are many new styles and a wider variety of options. Depending on where you live or what you prefer, styles may have an impact on the way you live. For example, as the seasons start to change, you cover up or wear less depending on climate or preference. Oversized sweaters and hoodies seem to always be in style during these seasons. “It is comfortable and stylish. It gives me a reason to wear oversized hoodies daily,” said Vanessa Antonio, a freshman at Nutley High School.
At Nutley High School, a trend which stands out is faux shearling oversized coats paired with a beanie. “I love the new fuzzy coat trend that is going around for the fall and winter," said Leah Navarra, a freshman at NHS. "Also, I love the thigh-high boots in winter with jeans and a beanie.”
Corrine Defede, a freshman at NHS, states, “I would prefer to wear clothes that make me feel comfortable and confident during the seasons.” She wears items like, “flannels and skinny jeans with band tees, which help me express myself.” In different ways, clothes allow for individual creativity.
Popular places to shop for teens at NHS are PacSun, Charlotte Russe, Zumiez, American Eagle, Garage, and Forever 21. Online shopping has also become very popular as technology advances. Clothes come to your door in a matter of days and websites provide their own insight into seasonal fashion trends. Online shopping may be easier for students who don’t have cars or have a busy schedule.
According to Vogue, many consider the "idea of clothes as ‘armor,’ via leather dresses and head-to-toe animal print and a nod to the subversive spirit of the Seventies." This year, we will see "velvet, corduroy, sequins and teddy bear shearling."
Just walk through the halls of NHS during a school day, and trend-after-trend can be seen. Some students will stick with what they know and like and others will experiment as fashion trends change.
