The Plan for Colleges this Fall

Since early March, schools, universities, and colleges around the globe have shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. While many hope that quarantine will soon lift, students around the world hope to return back to their classrooms in the fall. Public schools await until the fall gets closer to make any permanent decisions regarding the next year, but colleges and universities might have a different plan.

New Jersey and New York are the epicenter of this growing virus. Universities in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York are hopeful to get their students back into classrooms in the fall, but anything can happen between now and then.

Schools like Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut are leading positive impacts on their students, as they are planning to be back to normal schooling for the first fall semester. On the other hand, the Bronx, New York has begun to face other problems.

Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx is actively preparing to resume activities on campus in the fall. Although, because of the fear of contracting the virus, Fordham is just one example of a university that is facing a shortfall in budget because of refunds of room and board from students that do not want to live there during the next year. Considering the interruptions in the usual constant income of money each year, Fordham’s staff had to cancel many end-of-the-year ceremonies to maintain some financial stability.

Students from schools like Montclair State University and Stockton University in New Jersey await the news about how they'll be learning in the fall. NJIT in Newark is set to open in the fall for limited amounts of students around campus. Based on the school's location, population, and ability to make things work during this pandemic, can help determine who goes back for the first semester.

Everyone hopefully awaits that the pandemic will slowly fade away for the summer and upcoming school year. First year freshmen at these universities and others around the world hope to get to experience their first year at school in their dorms, and with their friends. The coronavirus has changed so much within just the past three months, and hopefully getting to go to school normally will be something that never gets interrupted again.
