NHS Art Show Back And Better Than Ever

On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, Nutley High School had its annual art show. The show took place from 6PM to 8PM and included art from students throughout the school, the National Art Honor Society induction ceremony, music by the NHS jazz lab, and food made by the NHS Culinary Department. “I am so happy with how well everything turned out, everybody did a great job. I am so proud of the students for doing such a great job setting up and preparing for the show,” said Angela Melchionne, one of the art teachers at NHS.

The NHS art department showed art from students of all levels and ages. Paintings, ceramics, watercolor, woodwork, digital art, 3D prints, and more were all included at the art show. The art show was unable to happen due to covid which is another reason why the students and staff were so excited about the show.

Art teachers and students have been preparing for this since the beginning of the year by having students work on their art skills and projects, “I remember hearing about the art show at the beginning of the year and being very excited. It came a lot sooner than I expected, seeing everybody’s art was so cool, all the different levels of art from beginners to very advanced students,” said Jenna Rutnik, a freshman in art fundamentals.

“I had a couple of pieces of art in the show like my double pinch pot creature which I made using two clay bowls and clay details, my mandala which was created by making a pattern with an animal and object, I choose a turtle and leaf,” said Jocelyn Soto another freshman in art fundamentals.

“Although the art show was a difficult process with setting up, preparing, making sure everything came together. It was all worth it in the end especially seeing how proud the students were of themselves and their work, they have worked so hard for this and I am very proud of them,” said Melchionne
