Jim Carreys' Retirement

As a society, we enjoy many things in our day to day life. One being the love of watching films and shows as a way of entertainment. In many famous movies and we watch with family or friends, an actor a lot of us can admire is Jim Carrey. Jim Carrey has starred in Dumb and Dumber to The Truman Show  to How the Grinch Stole Christmas to many other worldwide hit films. Before making it into the movie industry, Carrey worked as a janitor for two years. At the age of 15 did he start his debut as a professional stand-up comedian. By 1979, he was able to make a living as a comedian. His drive came from wanting to support and be financially there for his loved ones.

Carrey moved to Hollywood at the age of 19, where he worked in films and on television; he obtained dual citizenship in the United States in 2004. He appeared in the Canadian television film Introducing...Janet. He made his feature film debut the following year in Finders Keepers, followed by a leading role in Once Bitten. Carrey then portrayed Wiploc, an intergalactic alien, in the comedy Earth Girls Are Easy. Unnatural Act was his first TV special, received positive reviews and led to a regular role on the television sketch comedy series in living color. Carrey focused on his film career after the show ended in 1994. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was an instant success, and he continued to have greater success with Dumb and Dumber and The Mask. Carrey played a shy bank clerk who transforms into a crazy energetic green-faced fella who is nothing like the person you first meet in the film. Carrey's performance earned him the first of several Golden Globe nominations. He went on to play the Riddler in Batman Forever and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls.

Furthermore, Carrey, now in his 60s, is in the position of wanting retirement. All these years of hardwork and dedication are set to rest so now he can enjoy life the way he deems it to be. In an Interview with People he states, “I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life, and I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough," he said. "I've done enough. I am enough."

In previous interviews with Carrey, he hinted at retirement. He explains how painting is something he wants to focus on and how he feels he has control when it comes to painting. He felt that the industry was becoming corrupt and that corporations decided to take over. Carrey has seen how things changed in the film industry which closed him off into finding something that brings that same enjoyment he had when starting off in his acting career.

Overall, Jim Carrey has had a huge influence on the film industry and the way comedians are perceived. He has guided so many people into turning their sadness into laughter. He taught people to live in the moment and to not always be serious in life.  It's so inspiring to see him start off with just comedy to grow into genres like romance to drama to dark comedy. There are many influencers that portray what Carrey depicts, but Carrey has left a lasting impression on people all over the world. He will truly be remembered in the film industry and tons of people cannot wait to see what's next to come from him.
