How Coronavirus Has Impacted Nutley and New Jersey

On January 21, 2020, the first case of Coronavirus was confirmed in the United States. Since then, the global pandemic has impacted several other countries, with America being affected the most. As of X, there are 1,075,089 cases of COVID-19 in the country and 116,264 cases of the virus in the state of New Jersey. The number of cases is continuing to increase day by day, with health care workers and scientists struggling to develop a vaccine to mitigate the  spread of the virus. Though, in the township of Nutley, there are 414 cases of coronavirus and there have been 29 fatalities. 

In Northern New Jersey, there are a myriad of local testing centers to help those who have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19. Some of the testing centers include the K & M Testing center in Lyndhurst,  Ged Test Center in Passaic, Essex Testing Clinic Inc. in Clifton, and the Ged Testing Center in Union City.  Therefore, northern New Jersey residents can go to their county, community-based, or private testing centers if they believe they’ve exhibited symptoms of the virus. 

Thus, due to the severity of coronavirus, all Americans have been advised to follow strict safety precautions issued by the president and state governors. Americans have been advised to wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds, stay at home, only leave their homes for essential needs, wear a mask when stepping out, stand six feet away from other individuals, wear gloves, practice good hygiene, practice social distancing, and so on. Americans have also been advised by the CDC to wipe down their groceries with disinfectant wipes, use disinfectant spray on all surfaces, clean their phones, avoid touching their faces, etc. 

Though, along with many other state governors, Governor Phil Murphy has implemented new executive orders and safety guidelines to protect residents. To mitigate the spread of the virus and protect students, Governor Murphy closed  all New Jersey schools until at least May 15. Murphy said in a statement, “There’s nobody who wants to open the schools more than I do, I know this is hard. It’s hard on all of us. But if we all keep pulling and working together, I hope it will put me in a position in a month’s time to make a different announcement.” The governor also issued an executive order that requires all residents to wear masks when stepping out.  He said, “My number one job is [to protect] the health and safety of our state.” Hence, the state’s governor has been taking action to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect residents.

As the amount of cases increases each day, the country will continue to remain resilient and eventually defeat the global pandemic. If all Americans do their part and follow the safety guidelines from our leaders, we can defeat the virus and return back to our normal lives. As our President and Governor have advised, practice good hygiene and social distancing.
