The USWNT after a match

USWNT Equal Pay

For decades, women throughout the world have struggled with the concept of equal pay for equal work. This is an issue in business, medicine and sports, among others.  The U.S Women's Soccer Team (USWST) is taking a stand because of the equal pay movement. The men get paid around $10 million more  than the women do for the same roles.

In my opinion the, USWNT work so hard everyday just like the men, but often have better results. The team has won five World Cups and more championships that the men have ever won.

This is the issue behind the equal pay movement and the race to close the gender pay gap, because the women teams especially in the US are not getting equal pay.

For example, Carli Lloyd is a player on the USWNT and is a part of the five women apart of that committee, and she speaks out and says that she is very upset and sickened over this. She believed that the 23 women that are on the roster for the World Cups and the USWNT championships deserve as much as the 45 men on the Men's team get paid. The others on the committee are Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe Christen Press, Kelly O'Hara. These five women came together as some of the most respected women in the soccer world to make a change.

Many people may think that the men bring in more money, but that overall is just not the case. The women have many more games in a year including World Cups, She Believes Cup, and Friends.

In my opinion, the women deserve more and not only more pay, but at least an equal amount of pay. Little girls all over the US strive everyday to get better to one day be on the national soccer team. Do we really want these girls growing up knowing that they won't get equal rights and equal pay as the men's team? We, as women of the soccer world, should unite and come together to make a change one and for all.

The US Soccer Board and Foundation also needs to come together and realize that this needs to be solved. They can't just sit back and watch this all go down, it's not only not fair but it's also incredibly discouraging for many girls and women.  The players recently filed a lawsuit against the Board of Directors of the U.S Soccer Foundation.

Alex Morgan is one of the most respected players in the women's soccer league. She inspires many younger girls and teenagers all over the U.S. She wants these girls to have the opportunity to have these equal rights and to be able to get paid the amount of money they deserve with the time and effort they put in.
