The 63rd Annual Grammy’s Awards

On March 14, 2021, the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards took place at the famous Los Angeles Convention Center, in Los Angeles, California. The beloved Award show was broadcasted 8:00pm EDT, on CBS, for virtual audiences across the world. The Academy show lasted a whopping 3 ½ hours as singers and winners of the night accepted their well deserved awards and presented their music to the audience. Throughout the unpredicted and overall spontaneous night, a wide variety of music genres were able to make prominent appearances through awards and performances.

Trevor Noah started the show off strong and was able to successfully maintain the audience’s attention throughout the night with great dialogue and jokes between each performance, according to NPR. Noah, as well as other celebrities in the music industry, such as Lizzo, Jhené Aiko, and Jacob Collierand, welcomed various people to the stage for awards and even performing. These performances included singers and rappers such as, Cardi B, BTS, Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Lil Baby, Post Malone, DaBaby, Billie Eilish, Chris Martin, Post Malone. All performed music in their own unique style and persona.

With Covid-19 restrictions, the Grammy’s Awards was more on the expensive side. Harvey Mason jr. explains to Variety saying, “I don’t have an exact number, but the COVID protocol alone is millions and millions of dollars...trying to do this in an environment where we have more space for performances and [distancing], and when I say COVID protocol, that’s just the testing.”

It is additionally mentioned that most artists management crews insist for rapid tests on-sight for those arriving. These extra expenses were estimated to add an additional $500,000 or even more. In an interview with Variety and the Academy, representatives talked about an overall expense for the Grammys, being approximately $2.5 million dollars to cover for performances, Covid restrictions, and crew.

A total number of 75 Grammys awards were given out to numerous records, albums, and artists. Long deserved recognition went out to artists such as, Taylor Swift, Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Dua Lipa, and so many more. Whether it was for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Album of the Year, or other titles, all of the talented artists were rewarded for their hard work, talent, and dedication put out on their projects.

The long awaited ceremony was able to properly showcase this and did an amazing job in doing so. The production of the Grammys was truly one of its kind regarding certain restrictions set upon the Recording Academy this year.
