NHS’ Upcoming Virtual College and Career Fair
Nutley High School’s annual College and Career Fair will be held on March 11, 2021. Due to Covid-19, certain restrictions have been implemented for students and representatives coming from different colleges and universities. To protect the safety of students and spokespeople, the fair will be conducted virtually. Students and parents, grades 10-12, will be given this opportunity to be informed directly by representatives coming from trade schools, military branches, and universities.
With the help of the Nutley School Counseling department, Mrs. Gerckens, Mrs. Pasquale and Verona High School staff, this fair will be organized to function fully virtually. To make this event as diverse and open to all, 172 representatives will be chosen to discuss with students and parents throughout the night. Ms. Victoria Lewis, school counselor for NHS, explains that “it was very important to us, as school counselors, to still hold a college and career fair and virtually is the safest way to do so.”
Ms. Lewis further expands, “The goal is to have parents and students opt into virtual meetings depending on what information they want to hear.” Students will be given the chance to interact with representatives and widen any previous knowledge they may have about certain topics and interests. All are encouraged to attend the event, for it is an important step in planning for after high school. It is also an opportunity for everyone to educate themselves on fields they may not have thought of before.
Through obstacles and interferences, Nutley High School administrators and staff unfailingly manage to find a way to help students achieve educational goals. The NHS College and Career fair is an excellent way to hear more about colleges, learn about new institutions, and meet admissions counselors. Ms. Lewis states, “It is never too early to start planning for the future and the college and career fair is a great way to educate yourself."
This event will be held on March 11, 2020 at 6:00 pm. Grades 10-12 are all welcome to join and educate themselves, while expanding on interests they may have. Details will be provided to students and parents in advance of the event.
