Benefits That Might Come From Quarantine

The pandemic that is COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, has been affecting many worldwide. Many countries, including the U.S. have been on a country-wide quarantine since the middle of March, so staying positive during this very negative time has been difficult for many. However, since being on this quarantine, there have been many positives that have come from it. These include the environment healing, spending more time with your loved ones, picking up new hobbies, and focusing on ourselves and our mental health.

Before quarantine, the environment was dying rapidly, but now it’s as if the environment is healing on it’s own. Without all of the pollution coming from vehicles and factories, we can finally see the world clearer now. For example, Los Angeles was notorious for its smog, but now it has some of the cleanest air out of any major city. Also, the Himalayan mountains have come into view for the first time in 30 years due to less air pollution.  The Evening Standard reports, “Some people in northern India are seeing the view of the Himalayan mountain range for the first time in their lives, thanks to a drop in air pollution caused by the country's coronavirus lockdown.” No one is certain as to how long these effects will last once quarantine over but we should appreciate it for as long as we can.

Meanwhile, on the inside, life hasn’t been very exciting. All days are starting to mesh into one another and people, including myself, have been going a little stir-crazy. To cure my boredom, I have been picking up new hobbies like tie-dying all of my clothes. At this point, my whole wardrobe is tie-dye. It’s a very fun and fashionable activity that you can enjoy by yourself or with company. Including tie-dye, I’ve seen people online pick up other hobbies like doing your own nails (since nail salons are closed), baking, painting, and many other fun activities. The point of trying new things is to keep yourself busy which I think is what we all need to do if we’re ever feeling down. These are very trying times, so I think it’s important to focus on our mental health and do things that make us happy.

We don’t know when this virus will end or at least this quarantine will end, so I think we should all stay positive and look at the brighter side like our environment healing. Also, pick up a new hobby because why not? Keeping yourself busy will make time fly by.
