Exit 2002: Eric Wdowiak

Eric Wdowiak, commonly known as “Dov” among his students, has been teaching Spanish at Nutley High School since 2006. He started off his career at NHS as a substitute teacher for about a year, and was later offered a permanent position as a Spanish teacher. Wdowiak currently teaches Spanish Level 3 Honors and Spanish Level 4 Honors. He is also the assistant director for the fall performance and spring musical at the high school.

As a student at NHS, Wdowiak participated in several extracurricular activities. He played varsity baseball, and was very involved in the high school’s theatre program, which was run at the time by Ms. Tomasina Hyland and Mr. Pendolfe. During Wdowiak’s senior year of high school, he was nominated for a Paper Mill Award for his role as the “Reverend Shaw Moore” in Footloose. Although his nomination was, “a good overall feeling of accomplishment,” he feels that his favorite role was as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, “just because it was so demanding.”

Wdowiak described the Maroon and Gray during the time he was a student. The newspaper delivered copies to each homeroom for anyone who was interested in reading it. The Maroon and Gray journalists covered events happening around the school, similarly to the present. “Back then we didn’t have cellphones, so the Maroon and Gray was very informative to figure out what was really happening around the school,” said Wdowiak.
