The Sun Sets On Senior Night
Senior Night marked the final home meet of the season for Nutley Track and Field as they faced Payne Tech at DeMuro Park.
Before the meet began, seniors were recognized in a short ceremony. Underclassmen presented them with posters and red flowers, and families gathered along the track to take pictures and celebrate their last home meet. “It was really nice to see everything come together for the seniors,” freshman Arabella Miller said. “They’ve done a lot for the team, so it felt good being able to support them like that.”
After the ceremony, Nutley delivered strong results on both sides. The girls team earned a 100–34 win, finishing the dual meet season undefeated at 9–0 and securing the SEC Liberty Division title, their first since 2014. The boys team also came out on top with an 81–55 victory, ending their season with an 8–1 record.
Nutley saw key first-place finishes throughout the meet. Natalia Kit led the 400 hurdles, while sophomore Ellie Oldak took first in the 100m. Sophomore Havana Alvarez added a win in the 400m and contributed in the long jump. Lara Hindistan placed first in the 800m, and senior Meya Ranges led the 3200m. In the field events, sophomore Madelyn Mitschow won the triple jump, and Katelyn Visotsky earned first in both the shot put and discus.
“Congratulations to both teams for a very successful 2026 dual meet season,” said Coach Ryan. “Great things like this happen when you trust the process and are dedicated to following it everyday.”
Throughout the meet, Nutley athletes continued to perform consistently across all events. The team picked up points in sprints, distance races, relays, and field events, showing strong depth. “I think everyone really stepped up today,” freshman Allison Spina said. “People were focused, and it showed in how we performed across different events.”
For the seniors, the meet served as a final opportunity to compete at DeMuro Park after seasons of representing the program. At the same time, underclassmen gained experience and took on bigger roles, giving a preview of what the team could look like next year. “It also shows how we can keep improving,” Arabella added. “There’s a lot to build on after this season.”
With the dual meet season now complete, Nutley shifts its focus to postseason competition, including the Essex County Relays. “Big meets are coming up quickly,” Coach Ryan added, expecting the team to “keep grinding the workouts, stay focused, and stay dedicated to the program.” Senior Night marked the end of the home season, closing this chapter while setting the tone for what the team will carry into the rest of the year and into next season.
