Elementary Schools Compete in the Junior Olympics
Every year, all five Nutley elementary schools take part in the Junio Olympics. student looks forward to the Junior Olympics. The Junior Olympics is an outdoor competition, in the Oval, between the fifth and sixth graders of each school. The event is spearheaded by Ms. Robyn Powell and Lincoln Physical Education teacher, Mr. Tom Gargiulo.
The Junior Olympics is one of the biggest events of whole school year, with grades five and six competing and grade four as specators. School spirit for each individual elementary is on display as each school - Lincoln, Radcliffe, Spring Garden, Yantacaw and Washington - compete against one another.“I really encourage my students to root on their school," said Radcliffe Principal, Mr. Mike Kearney.
Students are chosen to compete in different events. “Everyone tries out for everything and the physical education teachers select whoever is best fitted for the competition,” said Kearney. Students aalso get to meet new people from different schools, which is important as they approach their years at the middle school.
